Oleksandr Usyk successfully defended his WBA, WBO, and WBC heavyweight titles against Tyson Fury in a captivating rematch on Saturday night in Riyadh.
Usyk, who had already defeated Fury by split decision in May, triumphed again, winning by unanimous points decision with all three judges scoring the bout 116-112 in his favor.
The fight unfolded similarly to their first encounter, with Fury making a strong start. The British fighter, who weighed in at a career-high 20st 1lb, controlled the early rounds with his jab and size advantage.
Usyk, however, weathered the storm and began to take control as the fight progressed, using his speed and accuracy to land clean punches on Fury.
Fury had his best moment in the fifth round, where he rocked Usyk with a powerful uppercut and left hook. But Usyk responded in the following rounds, landing precise shots to Fury’s head and body.
By the later rounds, Fury appeared to be chasing the fight, with Usyk consistently finding success with his overhand left and body shots, keeping his opponent on the back foot.
Despite Fury’s resilience, he could not gain the necessary momentum to win the fight. Usyk’s superior work rate and defensive skills proved decisive as he cruised to the final bell, aware he had done enough to retain his titles.
After the fight, Usyk confirmed his ambition to become undisputed champion for a second time in 2025, with potential mandatory defenses ahead.
Meanwhile, Fury, frustrated by the decision, expressed his belief that he had done enough to win.
Usyk’s victory keeps him undefeated with a record of 23-0, while Fury, now 34-2-1, suffered his second career defeat, both at the hands of the Ukrainian.
