Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola has expressed regret over his decision not to strengthen the squad during the summer transfer window, citing injuries as a key factor in the team’s slow start to the season.
Despite retaining the Premier League title last season, City made minimal additions, signing Savinho and welcoming Ilkay Gündogan back to the fold.
Guardiola admitted he resisted calls to revamp the squad, opting instead to rely on the existing players.
City are now addressing their needs in the January window, having agreed on a fee for Lens defender Abdukodir Khusanov and entering talks for Eintracht Frankfurt forward Omar Marmoush.
Guardiola acknowledged hindsight had changed his perspective: “I relied on the team we had, but after the injuries, maybe we should have brought in reinforcements.”
