Dangote, Trump Make TIME100 List as Global Influence of Business and Politics Takes Spotlight
Nigerian billionaire industrialist Aliko Dangote and United States President Donald Trump have been named among the world’s most influential figures in the 2026 edition of the TIME100 list, highlighting their continued impact on global business, governance, and economic policy.
The annual list, released by TIME on April 15, recognises individuals shaping conversations and decisions across politics, industry, technology, and culture. Dangote, the only Nigerian on this year’s list, was featured in the “Titans” category, which celebrates leaders driving large-scale economic and institutional change.
His inclusion marks a return to the prestigious ranking more than a decade after his first appearance in 2014, reinforcing his sustained influence in Africa’s industrial and economic landscape. As founder of the Dangote Group, he has built one of the continent’s largest conglomerates, with operations spanning cement production, sugar refining, fertiliser manufacturing, agriculture, and, more recently, energy.
Analysts say Dangote’s expansion into sectors such as oil refining and infrastructure reflects a broader push to reduce Africa’s reliance on imports while boosting local production capacity. His investments have also contributed to job creation and industrial growth across several African economies.
The TIME100 citation highlighted his long-term strategy of building globally competitive industries using African resources, a vision increasingly tied to his company’s “Vision 2030” roadmap. The plan aims to scale the group into a $100bn global enterprise through expansion into new sectors, including steel production, power generation, and port development.
Also recognised alongside Dangote and Trump were global figures such as Xi Jinping, Benjamin Netanyahu, and tech leaders like Sundar Pichai. The list also featured contributors to science, health, and culture, reflecting a broad spectrum of global influence.
Beyond business, Dangote’s philanthropic work through the Aliko Dangote Foundation continues to attract global attention, particularly in healthcare, nutrition, and education initiatives across Africa.
Observers note that the 2026 TIME100 list underscores growing international recognition of African leadership, with Dangote’s inclusion symbolising the continent’s expanding role in shaping global economic and development conversations.
