Nollywood actor and producer Daniel Etim Effiong has sparked conversation online after sharing his opinion on how spouses should respond to infidelity in a marriage.

Speaking during an interview with media personality Ife Agoro, Etim Effiong argued that cheating should first be seen as a personal struggle affecting the offending partner rather than an issue to be met immediately with anger or condemnation.

According to the actor, the first response from a betrayed spouse should be to ask, “How can I help you?” instead of focusing solely on the hurt caused by the betrayal.

Etim Effiong explained that a cheating partner is already “in a problem” and needs support to overcome it before both individuals can begin addressing the damage done to the relationship.

“If you cheat on me, you’re in a problem. How can you come out of this problem? How can I help you get out of this thing you’re in?” he said.

He further stated that after helping the partner through the situation, both parties could then work together toward healing their relationship.

However, Agoro challenged his stance during the discussion, arguing that the emotional needs of the unfaithful partner should not take priority over the pain experienced by the betrayed spouse.

Despite the disagreement, Etim Effiong maintained that genuine love is not self-seeking and should extend compassion even in difficult moments of betrayal.

His comments have since generated mixed reactions on social media, with some agreeing that infidelity may reflect deeper personal issues, while others believe accountability and empathy for the betrayed partner should come first.
