The Federal Government, through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), has received 270 Nigerian citizens who voluntarily returned from South Africa under the ongoing voluntary return programme.

The returnees arrived on Thursday at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport after completing the registration and screening processes required for the programme.

This was disclosed in a statement by Mohammed Olatunde, who said officials from NEMA, other government agencies and relevant stakeholders were on hand to receive the returnees and coordinate their reintegration.

According to him, the Federal Government arranged transportation to convey the returnees to their various destinations across the country.

Medical and emergency support services, including ambulances, were also provided for individuals requiring immediate healthcare assistance upon arrival.

Olatunde said the voluntary return initiative is aimed at ensuring the safe, orderly and dignified return of Nigerian citizens from abroad.

He reaffirmed NEMA’s commitment to providing humanitarian support and facilitating the successful reintegration of returning Nigerians into society.

The agency also pledged continued collaboration with relevant stakeholders to support the welfare, resettlement and reintegration needs of the returnees.
