The Super Eagles achieved a vital 2-0 victory against Rwanda on Friday, enhancing their prospects for FIFA World Cup qualification. Victor Osimhen initiated the scoring in the 11th minute and extended the lead just before halftime, providing Nigeria with a solid advantage at Kigali’s Amahoro Stadium.

This match was the inaugural game for new head coach Éric Chelle, the Franco-Malian strategist appointed to lead the Super Eagles back to the international arena. Following the match, Chelle’s team expressed their joy on X, celebrating their success in Kigali in front of their fans. “Mission Kigali done. Onto the next one,” they posted, accompanied by an image of Osimhen alongside the match result.

Osimhen was instrumental, netting both goals against Rwanda. His first came from a side-footed finish off a free-kick delivered by Ademola Lookman. The 26-year-old then doubled the lead by intercepting the ball on the halfway line and deftly lifting it over the Rwandan goalkeeper.

This victory propels Nigeria to third place in Group C, following South Africa’s 2-0 triumph over Lesotho. The Super Eagles are set to face Zimbabwe in their next World Cup qualifier on Tuesday.
