Flamengo opened their 2025 FIFA Club World Cup campaign with a 2-0 win over Espérance Sportive de Tunis at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.
Giorgian de Arrascaeta gave the Brazilian side a deserved lead in the 17th minute after sustained early pressure, firing home from Luiz Araújo’s cutback.
Flamengo dominated the first half, with goalkeeper Agustín Rossi untested as the Tunisian champions struggled to create.
ES Tunis improved after the break but were denied by Rossi when Youcef Belaïli went close. Moments later, Luiz Araújo sealed the result with a superb curling effort after being set up by debutant Jorginho.
The result puts Flamengo in a strong position ahead of their next Group A clash against Chelsea. ES Tunis must now beat Los Angeles FC to avoid early elimination.
