Spanish winger Nico Williams has ended speculation over his future by signing a new long-term contract with Athletic Club, keeping him at San Mamés until 2035.

The 22-year-old had been a prime target for Barcelona, as well as Bayern Munich and Arsenal, after starring for both club and country in recent seasons.

Barcelona had tracked Williams closely and viewed him as a key summer acquisition, but financial constraints and registration issues prevented the Catalan side from moving forward with a deal.

Despite recent discussions, the Spanish giants were forced to step back, clearing the way for Williams to pledge his future to Athletic Club.

His previous contract was due to run until 2027, but the new agreement includes a release clause that has risen by more than fifty percent, strengthening Athletic’s position in retaining one of La Liga’s brightest talents.

Williams further boosted his reputation last summer by helping Spain win the European Championship, scoring the opening goal in their 2-1 victory over England in the final.

His decision to stay in Bilbao ensures Athletic Club hold onto a player who has become central to both their domestic ambitions and Spain’s international hopes.
