Nigeria’s Rosemary Chukwuma faces a daunting challenge in the women’s 100m at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo after being drawn in a stacked heat.

Placed in heat two on the opening day, Chukwuma will race against Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith and Jamaica’s Tina Clayton, both strong medal favourites.

Other competitors include Belgium’s Rani Rosius, Togo’s Fayza Abdoukerim, Portugal’s Lorène Bazolo, Poland’s Ewa Swoboda, Czech Republic’s Karolína Maňasová and Estelle Short of the Cook Islands.

The 61st-ranked Nigerian, who clocked a season’s best of 11.03s in Florida in June, is one of 15 athletes named in Nigeria’s squad for the championships, which run from September 13 to 21.
