West Ham are poised to appoint Nuno Espirito Santo as their new manager following the dismissal of Graham Potter, who leaves after just eight months in charge.

Potter’s exit was confirmed on Saturday morning with the Hammers languishing in 19th place, having collected only three points from their first five Premier League games this season.

Despite insisting on Friday that he retained the board’s support, the 50-year-old was relieved of his duties after a poor run that stretched back to the second half of last term.

Talks with Nuno accelerated over the past 72 hours, with the Portuguese coach expected to be in the dugout for Monday’s clash with Everton.

The 51-year-old was sacked by Nottingham Forest earlier this month, just three games into the new campaign, but had guided them to seventh last season – their best league finish in three decades.

Potter’s reign produced only six wins from 25 matches, culminating in a 14th-place finish last season. The club said it “believes that a change is necessary” to avoid being dragged deeper into a relegation battle.
