Award-winning actress and producer Funke Akindele has once again proven her dominance at the Nigerian box office as her latest film, Behind The Scenes, recorded the biggest opening weekend of 2025, grossing over ₦200 million in just one weekend.
The milestone further cements Akindele’s reputation as Nollywood’s undisputed box office queen. According to the film’s distributor, FilmOne Entertainment, Behind The Scenes broke five opening-weekend records, making it the first Nollywood film in 2025 to achieve such a feat.
In a celebratory statement shared by FilmOne, the distributor praised audiences for their overwhelming support. “We call her the Queen of Box Office for a reason! Thank you, Nigeria, for showing up, filling cinemas, and spreading the word. Behind The Scenes crossed ₦200M in just one weekend, broke five opening-weekend records, and became the biggest opening of 2025!” the caption read.
The film benefitted from strong pre-release momentum, with advanced screenings held on December 10 and 11 generating widespread excitement ahead of its nationwide cinema release on December 12.
Behind The Scenes features a star-studded cast, including Scarlet Gomez, Iyabo Ojo, Destiny Etiko, Tobi Bakre, and Uche Montana, among others.
The latest success adds to Akindele’s impressive track record at the box office. Her previous release, Everybody Loves Jenifa, set a new Nollywood record as the biggest opening weekend of all time, surpassing her earlier achievement with A Tribe Called Judah, which opened at ₦113 million. Everybody Loves Jenifa later went on to become the highest-grossing Nollywood film ever, earning over ₦1.8 billion in Nigeria, with additional revenue from international markets.
With Behind The Scenes already rewriting records, Funke Akindele’s reign at the top of Nollywood’s box office shows no sign of slowing down.
