Bournemouth strike late to down fading champions
Bournemouth snatched a dramatic 3-2 win over Liverpool with a 95th-minute goal from
Amine Adli, leaving the reigning champions staring at another damaging league defeat.
The Cherries had raced into a 2-0 lead through Evanilson and Alex Jimenez, but
Liverpool fought back as Virgil van Dijk pulled one back before Dominik Szoboszlai
levelled in the 80th minute. Yet fatigue finally caught up with Arne Slot’s side, and Adli’s
late strike sealed the win.
“For the last five, six, seven, eight, nine, 10 games, we mainly have to play with the
same players,” Slot said.
“Sometimes a few of them could be, in the end of the game, a bit tired. I think that’s
what you could see today in the end as well.”
Slot also criticised the officials for allowing only four minutes of stoppage time,
suggesting Liverpool may have deserved more time to complete the turnaround.
“Both teams were trying to score a goal… and then in the end there is a long throw-in
which led to a goal,” he added.
Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola praised his side’s resilience. “It is a massive win for us
because we were in a difficult situation,” he said. “We are finding ways to get points
against difficult opposition.”
