It was a night of Nigerian brilliance in the UEFA Champions League as Ademola
Lookman and Raphael Onyedika headlined a thrilling 3-3 draw between Atletico
Madrid and Club Brugge.
Lookman fired Atletico into a commanding first-half position, finishing smartly from
close range after Julian Alvarez had opened the scoring from the penalty spot.
The Super Eagles forward’s goal put the Spanish side 2-0 up and seemingly in
control.
But Onyedika led Brugge’s charge after the break. The Nigerian midfielder reduced
the deficit with a calm finish following Jan Oblak’s initial save, before Nicolo Tresoldi
levelled the contest on the hour mark.
Atletico thought they had done enough when Joel Ordonez turned into his own net to
restore their lead.
However, Onyedika had the final word, sliding a precise pass to Christos Tzolis, who
struck in the 90th minute. After a VAR check, the equaliser stood, capping a dramatic
encounter.
While Atletico were left frustrated, it was a statement night for Nigeria’s Super Eagles
stars, with Lookman scoring and Onyedika delivering both a goal and a decisive
assist on Europe’s biggest stage.
