World No.2 Jannik Sinner moved a step closer to a maiden Indian Wells Masters title
after beating Denis Shapovalov 6-3, 6-2 to reach the fourth round on Sunday.
Despite dropping his serve in the opening game, the Italian quickly regained control,
breaking back and dominating from the baseline to secure a comfortable straight-
sets victory.
Sinner, who had earlier breezed past Dalibor Svrcina in the previous round, raised
his level as the match progressed, sealing the win with a flawless service game.
The second seed will next face either Tommy Paul or rising Brazilian teenager João
Fonseca for a place in the quarter-finals.
Elsewhere, fourth seed Alexander Zverev battled past Brandon Nakashima 7-6(2), 5-
7, 6-4 after finally converting his first break point of the match in the deciding set to
seal victory.
Young American Learner Tien also impressed, upsetting eighth seed Ben Shelton 7-
6(3), 4-6, 6-3 to book a fourth-round clash with Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, who
defeated Jakub Mensik in three sets.
