Jakub Mensik continued his remarkable French Open campaign on Tuesday,
defeating Joao Fonseca in straight sets to reach the first Grand Slam semi-final of
his career.

The 20-year-old Czech overcame the Brazilian sensation 6-4, 6-3, 7-6 (3) to become
the youngest Czech man to reach a Grand Slam semi-final.

Mensik took control by claiming the opening two sets before surviving a spirited
fightback from Fonseca in the third. The Brazilian served for the set at 5-4, but
Mensik broke back before sealing victory in a tie-break.

“Joao is a great competitor. I knew it would be a tough one,” Mensik said. “I’m super
happy I was the one who came through.”

The Czech also praised his composure in the closing stages after letting several
match points slip away.

“It was really tough to stay focused until the end, but I’m happy I managed to finish it
in the tie-break.”

Mensik’s victory sets up a semi-final showdown with title favourite Alexander Zverev
as his dream run in Paris continues.
