MCILROY HOLDS NERVE TO DEFEND MASTERS TITLE AT AUGUSTA.
Rory McIlroy held off Justin Rose and world number one Scottie Scheffler to retain
The Masters after a tense final round.
The world number two battled early errors before steadying with key birdies to close
with a one-under 71 and finish 12-under, edging Scheffler by one shot for back-to-
back titles.
“I just can’t believe I waited 17 years to get one green jacket and… I get two in a
row,” McIlroy said. “All of my perseverance… has really started to pay off.”
Despite late trouble off the tee, he recovered when it mattered, sealing victory with a
composed finish under pressure.
The win places McIlroy alongside Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, and Nick Faldo as one
of the few players to win successive Masters titles.
Scheffler, who finished one shot back after a bogey-free weekend, said: “I put up a
good fight… but came up a couple shots short.”
