World number one Jannik Sinner powered into the last 16 of the Madrid Open with a
straight-sets win over Elmer Moller, ending the Dane’s impressive run.
The Italian proved too clinical, sealing a 6-2, 6-3 victory in just over an hour to extend
His Master’s 1000 winning streak to 24 matches.
Reflecting on his performance, Sinner said: “I tried to stay calm and serve well in
important moments. I think that was the key today… Let’s see what’s coming in the
next round.”
Moller, facing a top-10 opponent for the first time, showed flashes of quality,
particularly in the second set, where his backhand began to find rhythm.
Despite the defeat, the 22-year-old can take positives from a strong week in Madrid,
having come through qualifying and secured multiple wins that are set to boost his
ranking.
