Tottenham Hotspur have activated a clause to extend captain Heung-min Son’s contract until the summer of 2026.
The 32-year-old forward, who joined Spurs from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015 for £22 million, was set to be out of contract at the end of the season.
Son has made 431 appearances for the club, scoring 169 goals, making him the fourth-highest scorer in Tottenham’s history.
In a statement, Spurs hailed Son as “a global star and a modern-day great” who has been instrumental during his time with the club.
Despite some inconsistent performances this season, manager Ange Postecoglou reaffirmed Son’s importance to his plans.
After being benched in Spurs’ 2-1 loss to Newcastle, the South Korean skipper is expected to return for Wednesday’s Carabao Cup semi-final against Liverpool.
