Santiago Gimenez has expressed his hopes for Feyenoord to make a strong run in the UEFA Champions League after knocking out his current club, AC Milan, in the knockout phase.
The 23-year-old Mexican striker, who joined Milan from Feyenoord in January for a reported €35 million, made an immediate impact in the second leg by scoring just 37 seconds into the match.
Reflecting on his lightning-fast goal, he admitted, “I don’t know if I have scored that quickly before. I can’t remember.”
Gimenez spent two-and-a-half successful years at Feyenoord, scoring 65 goals in 105 appearances and winning the Eredivisie, the KNVB Cup, and the Johan Cruyff Shield. Despite his disappointment over Milan’s elimination, he acknowledged the emotions of facing his former team.
“Of course, there were a lot of emotions involved, but leaving was a good experience. I’m just very sad now because we didn’t reach the next round. We have to learn from this. My congratulations go to Feyenoord, and I hope they get very far.”
