APC Re-elects Yilwatda as Chairman, Retains NWC Ahead of 2027 Elections
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has re-elected Nentawe Yilwatda as its National Chairman, alongside the return of all members of the National Working Committee (NWC), in a move aimed at consolidating party unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The decision was reached at the party’s 8th National Convention held in Abuja, where delegates endorsed the leadership through a consensus arrangement and voice vote. The newly returned executives were immediately sworn in to steer the affairs of the ruling party for another four-year term.
Key members of the NWC include Ali Dalori (Deputy National Chairman, North), Emma Eneukwu (Deputy National Chairman, South), Surajudeen Basiru (National Secretary), Bashir Gumel (National Financial Secretary), and Murtala Kankia (National Legal Adviser).
In his acceptance speech, Yilwatda pledged to strengthen internal democracy, expand the party’s grassroots presence and promote inclusiveness across all levels. He said the APC would continue to align its policies with the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“Our responsibility is to build a stronger, transparent and united party that reflects the aspirations of Nigerians,” he said, adding that youth empowerment and institutional reforms would remain central to his leadership.
The APC, which has governed Nigeria since 2015, has often relied on consensus arrangements at conventions to minimise internal divisions and maintain cohesion within its ranks. Political analysts say the re-election of the existing leadership signals continuity and stability as the party prepares for future electoral contests.
Yilwatda also expressed optimism about the country’s economic trajectory, citing ongoing reforms in infrastructure, social investment and digital innovation as indicators of progress.
He pledged an open-door administration and assured members that all stakeholders would be carried along in decision-making processes.
With the convention concluded, attention is expected to shift to preparations for the 2027 elections, where the APC aims to retain control at the federal and state levels.
