BRAGA TURN PRESSURE INTO A REWARD TO BREAK FREIBURG’S RESISTANCE.
SC Braga’s persistence paid off as they edged SC Freiburg 2-1 at the Estádio
Municipal de Braga, striking late to take control of their UEFA Europa League semi-
final tie.
The hosts set the tone early, going ahead in the 9th minute when Demir Ege Tiknaz
finished from close range after a defensive error.
Freiburg responded in the 27th minute, with Vincenzo Grifo calmly converting after a
quick break to bring the visitors’ level.
Braga had the chance to lead again before halftime, but Noah Atubolu denied
Rodrigo Zalazar from the penalty spot in stoppage time to keep the scoreline even.
The second half saw Freiburg retreat and absorb pressure, inviting Braga forward as
the hosts searched for a breakthrough.
Chances were limited, but the pressure kept building as the clock ticked down.
Their persistence finally paid off in the 92nd minute, when Mario Dorgeles reacted
quickest to a rebound and slotted home to seal the victory and break Freiburg’s
resistance.
Braga now carries a narrow advantage into the return leg at Freiburg’s Europa-Park
Stadion, while the visitors must respond after seeing their resolve undone at the
death.
