Crystal Palace struck inside the opening seconds and finished with authority, beating
Shakhtar Donetsk 3-1 away in the first leg of their UEFA Conference League semi-
final.

Ismaila Sarr needed just 21 seconds to tilt the night, racing onto Jean-Philippe
Mateta’s through ball and sliding home to hand the visitors a dream start.

The early blow forced Shakhtar to regroup, and they did so with composure, enjoying
possession without seriously testing Dean Henderson before the interval.

The hosts responded swiftly after the restart. Palace switched off from a corner, allowing Oleh Ocheretko to sweep in the equaliser from close range with Shakhtar’s first effort on target.

But Palace carried the sharper edge. After Dmytro Riznyk denied Sarr and Mateta in
quick succession, Daichi Kamada restored the lead with a firm, low drive just before
the hour mark.

Shakhtar pressed for another way back, but Palace struck the decisive blow late on.
A rapid counter-attack ended with substitute Jorgen Strand Larsen lifting a
composed finish over the goalkeeper to seal a convincing advantage.

The Eagles now return home in control of the tie, while Shakhtar are left needing a
major turnaround to keep their European run alive.
