CHWALINSKA STUNS SHNAIDER TO REACH MAIDEN FRENCH OPEN FINAL.
Qualifier Maja Chwalinska continued her dream run at Roland Garros, defeating
Diana Shnaider 7-6(4), 6-4 to reach her first-ever Grand Slam final.
The 24-year-old Pole produced a composed display under the Court Philippe
Chatrier roof, edging a tight opening set before securing the decisive break in the
second to seal victory on her first match point.
“It feels like a dream,” Chwalinska said after becoming just the second qualifier in the
Open Era to reach a Grand Slam final after Emma Raducanu’s 2021 US Open
triumph.
The world number 114 will now face 19-year-old Mirra Andreeva in Saturday’s final.
With both players bidding to win their maiden Grand Slam title.
