COVENTRY SEAL PREMIER LEAGUE RETURN AFTER 25 YEARS.
Coventry City secured a long-awaited return to the Premier League after a 1-1 draw
with Blackburn Rovers, ending a 25-year absence from England’s top flight.
Led by Frank Lampard, the Sky Blues needed just a point and delivered, with Bobby
Thomas’ late equaliser sealed automatic promotion with games to spare.
An emotional Lampard hailed the achievement, saying: “It was an incredible
moment. This is what it’s about.” He admitted the pressure of the occasion, adding:
“Coming here and getting a point at this stage isn’t easy. We had to see it out.”
Reflecting on the magnitude of the feat, he said: “Doing this after 25 years… wow.
That says everything about what this club has been through.”
Lampard also praised his players’ resilience across the campaign, noting they had
shown belief and character to finish the job after recent near-misses.
The result caps a remarkable rise for Coventry, who were playing in League Two in
2018, and have now completed their journey back to the top tier.
