Academic activities at the Federal College of Education (FCE), Eha-Amufu, Enugu State, are set to be disrupted following the commencement of a two-week warning strike by the institution’s chapter of the Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU).

The industrial action, which began on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, was declared after the union accused the college’s Provost and management team of failing to address longstanding grievances despite repeated appeals and formal notices.

According to a strike notice obtained by the union, the decision was reached during an emergency congress held on Tuesday, June 2, where members expressed disappointment over what they described as the management’s refusal to engage meaningfully with issues affecting the institution.

The lecturers revealed that they had earlier issued a seven-day ultimatum to the college authorities on May 21, outlining several unresolved concerns. However, they alleged that no concrete steps were taken to resolve the matters before the expiration of the deadline.

“Arising from the emergency congress, the union expressed deep disappointment that the Provost and her management refused to resolve the festering issues contained in the seven-day ultimatum,” part of the statement read.

COEASU maintained that it had complied with all procedures required under the Labour Act before embarking on the strike and warned that the current action could escalate into an indefinite shutdown if the management fails to address its demands within the two-week period.

To ensure total compliance, the union said it had established a monitoring committee that would oversee the implementation of the strike across all departments, insisting that no lectures or academic assessments should take place during the exercise.

The notice was jointly signed by the chapter’s Chairman, Comrade Chidi Nathaniel Agbo, and Secretary, Comrade Nwachukwu Simon Amadi.

Copies of the strike notice were also forwarded to the Minister of Education, the Chairman of the institution’s Governing Council, the Registrar, the Students’ Union Government (SUG), the College’s Chief Security Officer, and the Department of State Services (DSS) in Isi-Uzo Local Government Area.
