Mexico coach Javier Aguirre praised his players’ mental strength after they secured
a 3-0 victory over the Czech Republic to finish top of Group A and advance to the
World Cup knockout stage.

After a slow start, Mexico took control of the contest and produced an impressive
second-half display to seal a comfortable win.

“I didn’t like the first 20 minutes, but then we settled down, the team recovered, and
that’s where we showed the power of mental strength,” Aguirre said.

The veteran coach admitted there is still room for improvement, but was pleased with
the character shown by his side.

“This group has character,” Aguirre added. “We’ve improved in that area.”

Mexico now heads into the knockout rounds as group winners, with Aguirre hoping his
team can continue progressing and challenge for a historic deep run in the
tournament.
