“Never Kneel Like a Fool” — Yul Edochie Sparks Debate Over Proposal Traditions
Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has stirred reactions on social media after criticizing men who kneel to propose to women, describing the act as foolish and degrading.
In a recent post shared on X (formerly Twitter), the actor advised men to abandon the popular proposal gesture, urging them instead to stand confidently “like kings” when asking for a woman’s hand in marriage.
Edochie argued that kneeling diminishes a man’s dignity, insisting that any woman who demands such a display does not truly love her partner. He further advised men to walk away from relationships where they feel pressured to kneel during proposals.
“If men know how stupid they look when they kneel to propose to a woman, they’ll never indulge in such acts,” he wrote. “Stand proudly like the king that you are and propose. If she insists you must kneel or she leaves, let her go.”
The actor’s comments have since ignited mixed reactions online, with some supporting his stance on maintaining dignity, while others argue that kneeling is a harmless and romantic tradition embraced worldwide.
