Trent Alexander-Arnold has confirmed he will leave Liverpool at the end of the season, bringing a 20-year association with the club to an emotional close.
The 26-year-old, widely regarded as one of the finest right-backs of his generation, is out of contract on June 30 and is expected to sign for Real Madrid.
His departure marks the end of an era for the boyhood Red who rose through the ranks to become a key figure in one of the most successful periods in Liverpool’s modern history.
“This is easily the hardest decision I’ve ever made in my life,” he wrote in a heartfelt message on social media. “This club has been my whole life, my whole world, for 20 years.”
Alexander-Arnold made 352 appearances and scored 23 goals for Liverpool after debuting in 2016. Under both Jürgen Klopp and new boss Arne Slot, he helped the Reds claim a full sweep of major trophies, including two Premier League titles, the Champions League in 2019, the FA Cup in 2022, and two League Cups.
While teammates Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah have signed new contracts in recent weeks, Alexander-Arnold has chosen to walk away in search of a fresh challenge.
“I have never known anything else and this decision is about experiencing a new challenge, taking myself out of my comfort zone,” he said.
Liverpool acknowledged his departure with gratitude, praising his role in “a sustained period of success.”
