Jamal Musiala has confirmed he’s come through successful surgery after suffering a horrific leg injury during Bayern Munich’s Club World Cup quarter-final clash with Paris Saint-Germain.

The 22-year-old midfielder fractured his fibula and dislocated his ankle following a violent collision with PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma just before half-time.

Musiala was carried off on a stretcher in Atlanta and swiftly flown back to Munich, where surgeons operated to repair the damage.

“The surgery went really well, I’m in good care and I wanted to say there’s no one to blame for this,” Musiala wrote on Instagram, reassuring fans as he begins what’s expected to be a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

“I think situations like this happen and now I’m just going to use the next period of time to build up my strength and positivity again.”

The incident left Donnarumma visibly shaken, with the Italian keeper later sending his “prayers and well wishes” to Musiala.

Bayern boss Vincent Kompany, meanwhile, said he’d “rarely been so angry” following the club’s 2-0 defeat, as the sight of one of his key players in agony overshadowed the result.

Musiala had been enjoying a stellar season, tallying 21 goals and eight assists across all competitions as Bayern claimed the Bundesliga crown.

His absence now casts a shadow over Bayern’s preparations for the new campaign.
