Luis Diaz is on the verge of joining Bayern Munich after the German champions reached an agreement with Liverpool for a £65.5 million transfer, bringing an end to weeks of speculation over the Colombian winger’s future.
After seeing their initial £59 million bid rejected, Bayern returned with an improved offer which the Premier League champions have now accepted.
Diaz has been granted permission to leave Liverpool’s pre-season tour of Asia to undergo a medical in Germany.
The 28-year-old, who joined Liverpool from Porto in January 2022, played a vital role in the Reds’ title-winning campaign last season, scoring 17 goals in 50 appearances under Arne Slot.
He was notably absent from Liverpool’s 4-2 friendly loss to AC Milan in Hong Kong on Saturday, fuelling rumours of an imminent departure.
Bayern view Diaz as a high-calibre replacement for Jamal Musiala, who is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a broken leg and dislocated ankle at the Club World Cup earlier this month.
Liverpool, meanwhile, have been proactive in the market.
The arrivals of Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez and Giorgi Mamardashvili highlight their ambitious summer, with Newcastle striker Alexander Isak also reportedly on their radar.
