Liverpool manager Arne Slot admitted Crystal Palace were worthy winners after his side’s perfect start to the season was halted in a 2-1 defeat at Selhurst Park.
Palace dominated the first half and went ahead through Ismaila Sarr, only to be denied further goals by Alisson Becker’s saves.
Federico Chiesa struck late to give Liverpool hope of escaping with a point, but Eddie Nketiah’s stoppage-time finish sealed the Eagles’ triumph.
Slot, whose side had won seven straight games across competitions before this setback, was left frustrated by his team’s late defensive lapse.
“If one team deserved to win today, it was Palace,” he said. “We can only blame ourselves for defending the way we did.”
The result leaves Palace as the only unbeaten team in the Premier League, extending their run to 18 matches in all competitions under Oliver Glasner.
The Austrian hailed the display as a new high point in his reign, calling it “a great performance, great game, great win.”
