Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has declared that Nigeria’s World Cup dream is still alive, issuing a defiant message to Group C rivals South Africa and Benin Republic after the team’s 2–1 win over Lesotho in Polokwane.
The centre-back, who led by example with a composed penalty to open the scoring in the 55th minute, took to X (formerly Twitter) shortly after the match to remind fans and opponents alike that Nigeria remain in the fight.
“It ain’t over till it’s over,” Ekong posted, a statement that quickly went viral among supporters.
Akor Adams doubled the lead with a crisp finish in the 80th minute before Lesotho’s Kalake pulled one back, but Nigeria held on for a crucial victory to keep their 2026 FIFA World Cup hopes alive.
Despite the win, the group remains tight. Benin Republic’s victory keeps them top on 17 points, with South Africa second on 15 and Nigeria third on 14.
The Super Eagles must now beat Benin by at least two goals in their final match and hope South Africa falter against Rwanda.
For Ekong, who has embodied leadership and belief throughout the campaign, Friday’s message was clear: Nigeria is not done yet.
