Jannik Sinner has returned to the top of the ATP rankings after capturing the Paris Masters title, yet the Italian insists his year-end number one hopes depend on more than just his own results.
The 24-year-old defeated Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-4, 7-6(4) in Sunday’s final to reclaim the world No.1 spot from Carlos Alcaraz, who suffered a shock second-round exit earlier in the week.
The win also marked Sinner’s first Paris Masters crown and his fourth ATP title of the season.
“It’s not only in my hands, but I’m of course happy to be back at number one,” Sinner said. “The goal was to go day by day and maximise my potential. I’ve done that this week, and I’m extremely happy. Now we recharge for Turin.”
With the ATP Finals in Turin set to begin on November 9, Sinner will need another deep run to fend off Alcaraz, who trails him by just 1,050 points and has fewer to defend from last year.
Sinner remains pragmatic about his chances of finishing 2025 as the year’s best. “Before every match, I just try to give my best. Whatever comes, comes. In Turin, it’ll be the same.”
