Belgium booked their place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a commanding 7-0 win over Liechtenstein in Liege, securing top spot in Group J.
After being held by Kazakhstan at the weekend, the Red Devils still needed a result, but any nerves evaporated almost immediately when Hans Vanaken headed in Youri Tielemans’ deflected cross inside three minutes.
Belgium dominated from start to finish, pinning Liechtenstein deep in their own box.
Tielemans saw one effort cleared off the line before Jeremy Doku doubled the lead with a crisp first-time strike from Alexis Saelemaekers’ cutback.
Doku added a superb second soon after, dancing past two defenders and drilling low into the corner.
The onslaught continued after the break as Brandon Mechele scored his first international goal from another pinpoint Tielemans delivery.
Saelemaekers capitalised on a rebound for the fifth, before Charles De Ketelaere struck twice in quick succession to complete the rout.
Liechtenstein’s bleak campaign ended with 31 goals conceded and none scored, while Belgium march on to North America for a fourth straight World Cup.
