Kieran Tierney and Kenny McLean delivered two unforgettable stoppage-time goals as Scotland beat Denmark 4-2 at Hampden Park to seal their first World Cup qualification in 27 years.
The dramatic finish capped a night of nerves, emotion and historic relief, with Denmark now heading for the play-offs.
Scotland entered the game knowing a win would send them through after results elsewhere fell in their favour, and they made the perfect start.
Inside three minutes, Scott McTominay produced a moment of magic, meeting Ben Gannon-Doak’s cross with a spectacular bicycle kick that ignited Hampden.
Injury soon forced Gannon-Doak off, and Denmark grew into the game, eventually equalising early in the second half when Rasmus Højlund converted a penalty after Andrew Robertson’s foul.
A controversial second yellow for Rasmus Kristensen shifted momentum back to Scotland, and substitute Lawrence Shankland restored the lead from close range, only for Patrick Dorgu to level again moments later.
Just when Scotland’s hopes seemed to be slipping away, Tierney stepped up with a stunning curling strike from the edge of the box.
Moments later, McLean sealed the night with a sensational long-range effort after spotting Kasper Schmeichel off his line, sparking chaotic celebrations and sending Scotland to the 2026 World Cup in incredible fashion.
