Elias Achouri netted twice as Tunisia began their Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a convincing 3-1 victory over Uganda, preserving their perfect head-to-head record against the Cranes.
The Carthage Eagles set the tone early when Ellyes Skhiri’s header from a Hannibal Mejbri corner struck the post and deflected in off Aziz Kayondo after just 10 minutes.
Tunisia controlled much of the first half and were rewarded again before the break as Achouri volleyed home a fine first-time finish to make it 2-0.
The game slowed after half time, but Tunisia regained momentum on 64 minutes when Achouri reacted quickest to Jamal Salim’s save from Abdi to tap into an empty net.
Uganda struggled to threaten throughout, with Denis Omedi’s long-range efforts their best moments, one of which deflected in during stoppage time for a late consolation.
Tunisia sit top of Group C on goal difference, while Uganda start their campaign bottom after a disappointing display.
