Jesus double powers Forest to comfortable Europa League win
Igor Jesus scored twice as Nottingham Forest wrapped up the Europa League phase with a convincing victory over Ferencvaros at the City Ground.
Forest had already secured a knockout phase play-off place and harboured slim hopes of a top-eight finish, but those ambitions faded elsewhere despite an assured performance on home soil.
Ferencvaros threatened early when Kristoffer Zachariassen struck the post, but Forest soon took control as Bence Otvos turned Ryan Yates’ cross into his own net.
Jesus quickly doubled the lead with his 10th goal of the season, squeezing a finish in at the far post.
The Brazilian added his second soon after the break, breaking clear to fire past the goalkeeper and effectively end the contest.
Forest completed the rout from the penalty spot as James McAtee converted after Otvos fouled Dan Ndoye.
Forest will now turn their attention to Friday’s knockout phase play-off draw, where they will face either Fenerbahce or Panathinaikos, with the display offering fresh belief that a place in the last 16 is within reach.
