Cole Palmer struck a first-half hat-trick as Chelsea claimed a convincing 3-1 Premier
League victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers, with the result also making Liam
Rosenior the second English manager to win his first four league matches.
Wolves arrived at Molineux under pressure after back-to-back 2-0 defeats had halted a
five-game unbeaten run in all competitions.
Their situation worsened inside 15 minutes when Matt Doherty brought down Joao
Pedro in the box, allowing Palmer to convert the penalty after sending Jose Sa the
wrong way.
That marked the 20 th time Wolves had conceded first, and Chelsea almost doubled their
lead soon after, only for Sa to deny an Enzo Fernandez rabona and a near-post effort
from Malo Gusto.
The hosts then handed Chelsea another opportunity when Yerson Mosquera pushed
Pedro inside the area.
Palmer stepped up again to finish low into the corner, marking his 100th competitive
Chelsea appearance with his 50 th goal for the club.
Just three minutes later, he completed his hat-trick by sweeping home Marc Cucurella’s
cutback to put the contest beyond doubt before the break.
Wolves, who had not scored a second-half goal in their previous 10 home league
games, threatened early after the restart when Mateus Mané struck the post.
The home fans soon had something to celebrate as debutant Adam Armstrong flicked
on a corner for Tolu Arokodare, who controlled and finished from close range to reduce
the deficit.
Any hopes of a comeback faded as Chelsea managed the second half comfortably, with
Wolves improving but unable to create clear chances. Pedro Neto later fired into the
side netting as the game drifted to a close.
The win keeps Chelsea fifth in the table, just one point behind the final guaranteed
UEFA Champions League spot.
Wolves, meanwhile, remain on single-digit points after a 19 th league defeat and are still
three short of Derby County’s unwanted Premier League low of 11.
