SABALENKA ADVANCES AS DRAPER FALLS IN MIAMI.
World number one Aryna Sabalenka battled into the third round of the Miami Open
with a 7-6(5), 6-4 win over Ann Li.
After the win, Sabalenka said she “was fighting no matter what” despite not being at
her best, while praising her opponent’s aggressive display.
Elena Rybakina also advanced in straight sets, beating compatriot Yulia Putintseva
6-3, 6-3 to continue her strong run of form.
In the men’s draw, Jack Draper suffered a shock exit after losing 7-6(3), 7-6(0) to
Reilly Opelka, who fired 25 aces in a dominant display.
Draper admitted he “didn’t have many chances, especially on his serve,” adding that
staying unbroken “was kind of my job.”
Carlos Alcaraz progressed with a composed 6-4, 6-4 win over Joao Fonseca, while
Matteo Berrettini defeated Alexander Bublik 6-4, 6-4.
American Brandon Nakashima also impressed, saving seven set points to beat
Casper Ruud in straight sets.
Rain disruptions forced scheduling changes across the tournament, adding to a
dramatic day in Miami.
