BERRETTINI REACHES FIRST GRAND SLAM QUARTER-FINAL IN FOUR YEARS.
Matteo Berrettini continued his impressive French Open run with a straight-sets
victory over Juan Manuel Cerundolo to reach his first Grand Slam quarter-final in
four years.
The former Wimbledon finalist defeated the Argentine 6-3, 7-6 (3), 7-6 (6) on
Monday, extending his remarkable comeback after a series of injury setbacks.
“This is the love of my life,” Berrettini said. “There were moments it was really tough
to come back, but now I’m back.”
The world number 105, the lowest-ranked men’s quarter-finalist at Roland Garros
since 2007, will face either Frances Tiafoe or Matteo Arnaldi for a place in the semi-
finals.
“I feel great, I feel happy,” Berrettini added. “I’m focusing on my game, and I want to
enjoy this win.”
