POLITANO’S LATE VOLLEY SENDS NAPOLI PAST MILAN IN TITLE RACE.
Napoli kept their fading title hopes alive with a hard-fought 1-0 win over AC Milan,
decided by Matteo Politano’s late intervention.
In a tense, low-chance encounter, both sides struggled to find rhythm early on, with
Milan going closest through a header that drifted wide, and Napoli threatening via a
curling effort that narrowly missed the top corner.
The game opened up after the break, with Napoli increasing the pressure before
finding the breakthrough late on.
Politano, introduced from the bench, proved decisive as he reacted sharply at the
back post, meeting a weak defensive header and firing a fierce low volley into the
net.
Milan threw bodies forward in response, but late efforts from Rafael Leao and
Santiago Gimenez failed to find a way through as Napoli held on for a fifth straight
league win.
The victory lifts Napoli above Milan and keeps them within seven points of leaders
Inter heading into the final stretch.
