Abducted Oyo school principal

Residents of Ogbomoso on Monday staged fresh protests demanding the release of pupils and teachers abducted during coordinated attacks on three schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The demonstration came nearly 25 days after gunmen invaded Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, Community Grammar School and L.A. Primary School, Esiele, abducting more than 40 pupils and education workers.

The victims have remained in captivity since the attack on May 15, 2026.

Meanwhile, the abducted principal of Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele, Rachael Alamu, appeared in another viral video on Monday, making an emotional appeal for intervention and rescue.

Speaking from captivity, Alamu reportedly urged Nigerians not to be misled by claims that the abductors were demanding the implementation of Sharia law as a condition for releasing the hostages.

Her remarks come amid growing public concern over conflicting reports surrounding negotiations and the kidnappers’ demands.

The prolonged captivity of the victims has triggered widespread outrage across Oyo State and beyond, with parents, community leaders and civil society groups intensifying calls for urgent action.

The Nigerian Union of Teachers had earlier directed its members across Oyo State to embark on an indefinite strike until the kidnapped pupils and teachers are rescued.

Protests have also been held in several locations across the country as pressure mounts on authorities to secure the victims’ freedom.

The school abductions have become one of the most high-profile security incidents in the South-West, raising renewed concerns about the safety of schools and rural communities.
