GERMANY DOMINATES CURACAO, BUT NAGELSMANN DEMANDS MORE DESPITE A 7-1 WIN.
Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann insisted his side must stay grounded after a
commanding 7-1 victory over Curacao in their World Cup Group E opener on
Sunday.
“It was a great start to the game, the first 15 minutes were fantastic,” Nagelsmann
said. “The equalising goal from Curacao was unexpected, but it was fascinating to
see how the team reacted.”
Germany was briefly held at 1-1 in the first half before pulling away, but
Nagelsmann warned that stronger opponents will test them further as the tournament
progresses.
“We are on the right path, but there are things we can do better, and we will have
tougher opponents,” he said. “We had to be patient at 1-1, but the team showed the
right intensity.”
Despite the scoreline, he praised Curacao’s resistance and stressed the importance
of focus in tighter moments.
“It is not easy to score seven goals, so we are satisfied,” he added. “We really
needed this convincing win and the confidence it gives us, but we must keep going.”
Germany now turn their attention to a tougher Group E clash against the Ivory Coast in
Toronto on Saturday.
