POTTER HAILS ISAK-GYOKERES PARTNERSHIP AFTER SWEDEN THRASHES TUNISIA.
Sweden coach Graham Potter praised the growing partnership between Alexander
Isak and Viktor Gyokeres, after their side opened their World Cup campaign with a
commanding 5-1 victory over Tunisia.
Yasin Ayari scored twice, and Mattias Svanberg also got on the scoresheet, but Isak
and Gyokeres were the standout performers, each scoring once and causing
constant problems for the Tunisian defence.
“Individually, they are top players, but together they can be a real threat,” Potter said.
“They complement each other very well, and I think they’ll get better and better the
more they play.”
Potter was pleased with Sweden’s overall display, although he admitted there is still
room for improvement.
“We know the quality we have in the attacking positions, but they need the team to
function,” he said. “We weren’t perfect, but I thought we controlled the game well.”
The result sent Sweden to the top of Group F after the Netherlands, and Japan drew
2-2 earlier in the day.
Attention now turns to a tougher test against the Netherlands.
“We know we’ll meet a top team next, and we have to be ready for that,” Potter
added.
