A late header from Timothy Zechariah ended Rivers United’s five-game winless run as they edged Lobi Stars 1-0 in Port Harcourt on Sunday.
The victory eased pressure on coach Finidi George and revived the team’s title hopes.
The hard-fought win lifted Rivers United to third place with 38 points, though they remain 10 points behind league leaders Remo Stars.
Before this match, their last win came in December against Kwara United.
Elsewhere, Akwa United secured a 2-1 win over Enyimba but remain in the relegation zone, while Abia Warriors cruised past Sunshine Stars 3-0.
Ikorodu City also pulled off a comeback victory, beating Kwara United 2-1.
