Barcelona Grind Out Win to Reclaim La Liga Summit

Barcelona returned to the top of La Liga with a hard-fought 2-0 victory over struggling Las Palmas at Estadio Gran Canaria on Saturday night.

Atletico Madrid had briefly taken pole position after a dominant win over Valencia, but Hansi Flick’s men responded with a composed performance to reclaim first place.

Second-half goals from Dani Olmo and Ferran Torres secured all three points, moving Barça to 54 points—one ahead of Atletico and three clear of Real Madrid, who face Girona on Sunday.

Though not a vintage display, Barcelona’s defensive discipline and clinical finishing proved enough. Olmo broke the deadlock with a superb strike after coming off the bench, while Torres sealed the win late on.

With just two goals conceded in six league games this year, Barça’s newfound solidity at the back could prove decisive in a fierce title race.

Meanwhile, Las Palmas remain 17th, level on points with 18th-placed Valencia, as they continue to battle against relegation.
