ANTONELLI EXTENDS TITLE LEAD WITH FOURTH STRAIGHT F1 WIN.
Kimi Antonelli strengthened his grip on the Formula One championship after claiming
a fourth consecutive victory at the Canadian Grand Prix, following the retirement of
Mercedes teammate George Russell.
The two Mercedes drivers had battled fiercely for the lead in Montreal before
Russell’s race ended on lap 30 due to a power unit failure.
“Not the way I wanted to win, but we’ll take it,” Antonelli said after the race.
Lewis Hamilton finished second for Scuderia Ferrari, while Max Verstappen secured
his first podium of the season in third for Red Bull Racing.
Russell admitted his frustration after suddenly losing power while leading the race.
“Everything just turned off all of a sudden,” he said. “I’m pretty frustrated, but what
more can I do?”
Antonelli’s latest success increased his championship lead to 43 points and made
him the first Italian driver since Alberto Ascari in 1952 to win four straight races.
The 19-year-old also became the first driver in Formula One history to record his first
four wins consecutively as Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One Team continued
their dominant start to the season.
