Keystone Bank Boosts Digital Learning with New ICT Centre in Makurdi School
Keystone Bank Limited has donated a fully equipped Information and Communication Technology (ICT) centre to Government Model School, Makurdi, in a move aimed at enhancing digital literacy and expanding access to modern learning tools in Benue State.
The facility, located in the state capital, was officially handed over during a ceremony attended by government officials and key stakeholders in the education sector.
Representatives of Governor Hyacinth Alia were present at the event, including the Secretary to the State Government, Deborah Serumun Abeeh. Other dignitaries in attendance included the Commissioner for Education and Knowledge Management, Margaret Adamu; Commissioner for Science and Technology, James Dwem; Commissioner for ICT, Kwaghgba Amande; and a representative of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Olabitan Adebowale.
The ICT centre, delivered under Keystone Bank’s education support initiative, is equipped with laptops, workstations, ergonomic seating, air conditioning and an inverter-powered energy system. It also features a dedicated hall designed to support teaching, research and digital learning.
Speaking at the event, the bank’s Executive Director for North and Public Sector, Abubakar Usman Bello, emphasised the importance of education in national development.
“Education remains one of the strongest foundations for any thriving society. It shapes minds, creates opportunities, and prepares the next generation of leaders,” he said.
Bello added that the bank’s continued investment in education reflects its commitment to promoting learning, innovation and access to quality resources, particularly in underserved communities.
Also speaking, the bank’s Northern Regional Head, Bala Umar, noted that the initiative aligns with global efforts to improve education outcomes, particularly in the area of quality learning and digital inclusion.
In her remarks, Abeeh, representing the governor, commended Keystone Bank for the intervention, describing it as a significant contribution to human capital development in the state.
“This kind of partnership between the private sector and government is essential for sustainable development. We encourage more organisations to emulate this laudable initiative,” she said.
The Principal of the school, Dr. Robert Apir, described the ICT centre as a major boost to academic development, noting that it would enhance teaching and learning, support digital examination processes, and improve computer literacy among both staff and students.
He also expressed appreciation to the Benue State Ministry of Education and assured that the facility would be properly maintained and effectively utilised.
