World champions Argentina began their FIFA World Cup title defence preparations
with a comfortable 2-0 friendly victory over Honduras, despite resting talisman Lionel
Messi due to muscle fatigue.

After an energetic start, Argentina took the lead before halftime when Lautaro
Martínez converted from the penalty spot following a foul on Nicolás Tagliafico inside
the box.

The holders doubled their advantage early in the second half as Martínez turned
provider, setting up Giuliano Simeone, who finished confidently to seal the win.

Argentina remained in control throughout and comfortably saw out the result,
extending their strong form ahead of the tournament.

Lionel Scaloni’s side will face Iceland in their final warm-up match before opening
their World Cup campaign against Algeria.
