Jakub Mensik described the conditions at the French Open as “insane” after
collapsing with cramp moments after his exhausting five-set victory over Mariano
Navone in temperatures above 30 °C.

The 20-year-old battled for four hours and 41 minutes on Court Six before sealing a
dramatic 6-3, 2-6, 6-4, 1-6, 7-6(11) win on his eighth match point.

Immediately after hitting the winning shot, Mensik fell flat on the clay and struggled to
get back to his feet as medical staff later came to assist him.

The Czech star criticised the conditions and hinted at frustration with the umpire’s
handling of the situation, saying he had “no respect” for the referee’s behaviour after
the match.

Mensik admitted his body “turned off” after the final point, but later confirmed he was
feeling better and expected to recover in time for his next-round clash against Alex
De Minaur on Friday
